painting on a stamp

Leila’s painting is part of the collection of 12 official postage stamps ‘Blue In Art’, released in France to celebrate the colour blue in art.

From the blue of the sky to that of the sea, this colour runs through the history of art. Symbolising peace, purity and infinity, blue inspires artists of all eras. This notebook of twelve stamps celebrates its multiple shades. At Yvaral, Cubic Structure evokes a space that vibrates with light. Paul Klee, with Nuit bleue, makes abstract forms dance in a suspended universe. Vincent Van Gogh, master of deep blue, declines it in The Starry Night and Almond Blossoms. Marine bleue by Georges Lacombe and Paysage côtier by Carl Burckhardt reflect the soothing power of marine horizons, while André Brasilier, in Plage normande, grasps the luminous poetry. René Magritte's meditation invites introspection to Le fil bleu de l'art, and Edgar Degas, with his Blue Dancers, with grace in motion. Sara Hayward, Leila Barton and André Derain offer fresh contemporary visions.

Leila is captivated by the majestic beauty of racehorses, and the poise and concentrated strenth of the jockeys. She loved capturing Rachael Blackmore Riding Honeysuckle at the Cheltenham Festival, as jockey and horse become one with each other, and one with the landscape.
